4/20/18

Today, we had a group of kids come in for a field trip. They were high-school level. I started the day off by making Free Ink Day flyers for tomorrow's event, then went to the elementary to pass them out. I also took over a check request to the same building (that's where the guy who owns the building is located). Later, the kids showed up and we went straight to work. Most of them seemed super excited, which was great. I talked to their teacher, he was in his late 30s and told me he graduated from Herron with a painting degree. He told me why he decided to become a teacher, and showed his work to me. The kids didn't get done with their shirts in time, so their teacher came back into the shop on Saturday by himself (I helped Cody transport stuff to Cat Head, that's how I knew the teacher was there finishing up the shirts for his students).

Today, I was the only "shop watcher" until 5:30pm (Ciaran came in). I swept and mopped the shop, then worked on printing layers on the backgrounds of my pieces. The same woman came into the shop to finish printing her t-shirts from 11am - 5pm. Also the two artists with the show up in the Middle Space Gallery both came in with their instructors to have their reviews in the gallery. They left around 4pm. Then Carly, the yoga instructor, came in for 4:30 yoga. We had two people come in for that. I stayed at Cathead for the Book Making event that went on tonight from 6-9pm. Only four people showed up for this event, even though six had prepaid. We learned how to make Maze Books, with a cover. They were very small (palm sized). The people were able to cut and glue from magazines, or even draw in their books. Most of them did a mixture of both. It was a pretty uneventful day, but I was productive. 10am - 9pm This was my book:

Ciaran was on Vacation, so I managed shop on my own. I arrived at 10am, followed procedures to open shop. I had a studio artist (Ting) in the shop every once in a while with me, but mostly I was alone. No one came in to work or use the shop, so I just worked on my schoolwork. I talked to Ting about Oil painting and Chinese Calligraphy. She said that she would teach me some of the calligraphy techniques next Friday which is pretty awesome! I also separated stickers (around 200) off a roll for the shop. Our new stickers came on a roll instead of Di-cut. Then from 3pm - 4pm there was the usual "Middle Space (Gallery) Yoga". I was able to do the yoga since Dominic showed up to watch shop. Only one person showed up for Yoga, so the instructor Carly, really wanted me to try it out. 10am - 6pm
